Frogfish are one of the more difficult fish to find on a reef, because they look more like a sponge than a fish. Frogfish use this camouflage to their advantage, along with a unique protrusion on their head called an illicium. An illicium is like a fishing pole with a small fleshy piece of bait on the end, seen as the blue spot in the upper right corner of this photograph. Other fish are lured in close to eat it, but instead they get eaten by the frogfish, which lurches forward to gobble its prey.
